Eleven miles of corridor rebuilt under live traffic, with four new interchanges and night-only closures.
The corridor carries commuters and freight every hour of the day, and closing it was never an option. The work included full-depth pavement reconstruction, four new interchanges and the relocation of buried utilities that no one had mapped in decades. Full closures were limited to nights, and every lane had to reopen before morning traffic.
The approach.

- 01
Design released by segment
Design-build let early segments go to construction while later interchanges were still in design, keeping crews working from month one.
- 02
Utilities moved first
Potholing and test pits found the buried lines before excavators did, and relocations stayed ahead of the paving front.
- 03
Night closures, morning openings
Every closure had a written plan, a crew sized to finish in the window and a hard reopening time.
- 04
Our crews, our equipment
Self-performed earthwork, paving and bridge concrete kept the critical path in our own hands.
The outcome.
“The road belongs to the people driving it. We borrowed it at night and gave it back every morning.”
